Southend Hospital Volunteer Awards 2017
Last night, volunteers from Southend Hospital Radio joined attended the annual Southend Hospital Volunteer Achievement Awards evening in Southend.
The hospital relies on its army of around 500 volunteers, and 175 attended the awards ceremony at Saxon Hall in Aviation Way.
In an interview recorded for broadcast on Southend Hospital Radio, Yvonne Blücher, Managing Director at Southend Hospital, said that the evening was to celebrate the achievements and all the hard work that the 500 volunteers have done this year. “We couldn’t survive without the work done by the volunteers. I can’t thank them enough”
Southend Hospital Radio celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and it’s great that we were able to attend and mix with the other various volunteer groups, as well as chat with representatives from the Trust.
Our thanks to Thursday night presenter Gary Rushman, who has recently been promoting our service within the hospital. This resulted in Gary being nominated for the “Unsung Hero” award. Gary is keen to highlight that Southend Hospital Radio is a team, and that the station’s success is due to the fact that the committee and members give up their time to do their bit for the radio station.
Gary says: “Thanks go out to ALL at the station, be it behind the scenes members, people on-air, ward liaison teams, tech guys. Everybody is valued and I am happy to be a part of the Southend Hospital Radio family.”
We’d like to thank the team at Southend University Hospital for inviting us to attend the evening, and in particular to Jane O’Connell, Voluntary Services Manager at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
